LESILE, MO — Debuting the 24th of August, Christ the King Lutheran High School gives teenagers a Christ-centered Lutheran place to study.
The opening Monday started with a church service with over 100 attendees. Afterwards, guests were invited to tour the school, meet students and staff, and buy school apparel.
“It was extremely exciting to be part of something, even though it was just a small part of something bigger that is happening in the community that only God can do,” church guest Mark Pavely said.
The new high school provides teenagers core classes along with a New Testament class. The 90 minute block schedule was an adjustment to some students.
“Getting into the groove of the block schedule was the main thing about my first week. But getting to participate in fun activities, such as sand volleyball with my peers was my favorite thing of the week,” freshman Mackenzie Pauk said.

On Fridays the schedule switched to a regular 60 minute time period for each core class. Students played team building games together in a relaxed atmosphere for the first Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday the school officially began with a full day of classes.
By the end of the week students enrolled into their elective classes. The students chose from Introduction to Agriculture, Industrial Arts and Sciences, Student Publications, and Game Design 3D Animation.
Principal Sam Eckman said that his first week at Christ the King was busy and was a great learning experience for his new job as principal. He couldn’t ask for a better group of students to plant foundational core values.
Rooted in Christ, the school year’s theme based on Colossians 2:6-7 will serve as the focus in Thursday afternoon chapel led by various pastors. Guests are welcome to attend weekly chapel services.
Student Mackenzie Pauk admits that Biology class was a difficult subject. She was confused at first but said she eventually figured out what she needed to know. She enjoyed her first week at Christ the King Lutheran High School.
