Christ the King Lutheran High School’s fall opening is generating increasing excitement within Franklin County, MO. Community members are supporting the school’s mission through various donations, including the gift of a gently used telescope for the school’s new science department.

The telescope will give students a chance to view for themselves the objects that they read about in their science books, as well as observe those objects’ movements. They will not only be able to see the moon and the sun’s planets, but also galaxies, star clusters, and nebula.

It will be housed in a nearby observatory at Camp Trinity near New Haven, MO.

Ray Mueller, member of the local astronomy club, Eastern Missouri Dark Sky Observers (EMDSO), assisted the school with the telescope’s setup for future star-gazing sessions. EMDSO has helped Camp Trinity with their observatory for several years.

The telescope is a step-up from beginner scopes. The telescope design is a C8 Schmidt-Cassegrain. It sits on a polar plate and is able to track stars as they move across the sky based on the earth’s rotation.

The school is grateful for the donation as well as the time Mr. Mueller spent working on the scope. God is good.
